REFLECTIVE TASK

Identify someone you know who you feel is a confident communicator. What is it about them that gives this impression?

PRACTICAL TASK

1. Stand in front of a mirror and observe your face. Now alter your expression to convey: (a) enthusiasm and interest; (b) confidence; (c) anxiety.

2. Take a sentence from a book and read it out loud. Now read it to convey enthusiasm and interest. Use the tone of your voice and pauses to emphasise. Go overboard and exaggerate to get the feel of it. Now read the sentence to convey confidence and, finally, anxiety.

3. Repeat this second task looking in a mirror. Notice the change in your expression as you convey the differing emotions.
